"If you don’t risk anything, you risk more.."

An interview with Naomi Gee.

We love hearing from people in business, and this chat with Naomi is no different. She shares openly an honestly about the ups and downs of business, from the stressful tasks that need to be completed and reaching for goals to the future to thinking about how she stays motivated to grow, personally and professionally.

Hi Naomi, thanks for joining us. How would you describe your career path so far?

My business success is a love story that resulted in a career change to chase a dream of being a business woman.

This came to fruition as a result of meeting my new husband and leaving a 15 year teaching career to become a Mortgage broker in our financial services company. I studied for 3 years at night after putting my little one to bed, whilst being a single mum and full-time teacher. Then sat my exams in the school holidays so that I was fully qualified when leaving my teaching career. Demonstrating that hard work and determination will get you to your desired destination.

Wow, it sounds like a tough journey but worth all the long hours we are sure. What is your current role and what is your favourite part about it?

MGI Mortgages is a trading style of Manning Gee Investments.

My husband is an IFA specialising in investment. My side of the business involves mortgages and protection. I am a whole of market, mortgage adviser for residential and commercial lending. I help clients find a mortgage whatever their circumstances.

Happy to problem solve and think creatively, with people’s best interest at heart. Obtaining mortgages for those who might think it isn’t quite possible, is really rewarding through links with specialist lenders. My advice to those seeking a mortgage, is to get in touch as you just might be able to get a mortgage quicker than you thought. I love to help people and I’m happy to invest time in you!

What is the most important task you carry out each day?

Helping people achieve their plans with good advice and quality service.

Being a good role model to my children. Investing, quality time with them at the end of the working day. Inspiring them to achieve success and find happiness.

Demonstrating that hard work and determination will get you to your desired destination.

Those are excellent answers Naomi, we agree with that. Important to be role models for the people in our lives. We want to pick your brains a little - what advice would you give to your 21-year-old self about your career journey?

Encouraging quote that I hold on to:

“If you don’t risk anything, you risk more.” Erica Jong

What is the most stressful task in your current role?

Knowing when the next bit of business will come.

Who are your leadership role models?

Michael Hyatt: who offers tools, training and coaching for Productivity that Fast-Tracks success. His concept shows how to plan your year, design your days and achieve your biggest goals.

Getting up everyday and giving business your all can be exhausting. What motivates you every day?

Success stories in our business. And the idea of holidays and travelling with my family.

What are your goals for the future?

To expand the business in terms of client bank and staff.

Increase awareness of the business and the great services we offer. Increase traffic to our business website: www.mgi-mortgages.co.uk.

On a personal level, I would like to schedule small breaks from the business to reenergise and plan.

And finally, if you could give a single piece of advice to a start-up entrepreneur what would that be?

Don’t be self-disparaging. My favourite quote:

“While one person hesitates because he feels inferior, another is busy making mistakes and becoming superior.” Henry C. Link
